Recently, three of my images placed in the Professional Wedding Photographers of Canada’s Winter 2013 photo contest. Images from Megan + Matt’s, Nadine + Dave’s, and Dana + Phil’s wedding picked up the honours.

Much obliged!

As their first anniversary approached, I asked Megan and Matt (married on February 9, 2013 at Le Nordik Spa) to look back on their favorite wedding photos and share what makes them so meaningful. Thank you, M&M, for taking the time to share your kind words and happy anniversary!  – Blair

Selecting our favorite photos from our wedding day is a hard task, it seems as though each one is our favorite!. This first photo brings me back to how excited I was for the day…not only did I need one glass to celebrate, but two!

When I look the photo of our first look it brings back those feelings of butterflies in my stomach and how at that moment it sets in that it’s our wedding day.  Each time I look at this photo I am brought right back to that moment and feeling.

This is one of our favorite from the day.  We find the photo to be unique and unlike any other photo we had seen before.

The photo of my younger cousin in the church is too funny! We love looking through the photos that capture the guests during the ceremony.  These are reactions that we weren’t able to see at the time of, but are great to look back on.

The photo of my sister and maid of honor, Trista, holding an urn of our friend’s ashes while laughing makes me think of what Krista would say – “stop crying b*tches and enjoy the moment!”

One of my favorite parts of the day was my dance with my dad.  I have been a daddy’s girl since day one and these photos highlight how much fun those few minutes of the day were.

We asked a lot of our wedding guests, to travel and in the winter no less, to attend our wedding.  It was important to Matt and I to ensure they had a good time and that we make their travel worthwhile!  The next four photos are just a small sample of the great memories Blair was able to capture during our reception.  The dance floor photos are some of our favorite to look back on and reminisce on what a great time our guests had that evening.

Lee and Eric special ordered the perfect snow for their wedding day. The temperature was perfect and the snow fell gently and consistently all day long. Even the Scotsmen in attendance seemed to enjoy the blanket of white stuff. The couple planned a fantastic wedding at the Strathmere Lodge with loads of personal touches and even a screeching-in ceremony! Their guests were encourage to kiss a frozen fish and take a shot of Newfie rum to become honorary Newfoundlanders. “Deed I is, me ol’ cock! And long may yer big jib draw!”

Congratulations Lee and Eric!

Say-what machine? I came home yesterday from Mystic Seminars to an email from the kind folks at Wedding Bells magazine congratulating me on being one of their top 30 photographers to watch for 2014. And I said pardon? This was a surprise to be sure and I am very grateful to be listed among such talented Canadian wedding photographers. This really inspires me to work even harder in 2014 to live up to this honour.

Why we love him: Few photographers can light a photo as artfully as Blair Gable.
This award-winning photographer actually spends most of his time shooting political news coverage, professional sports and environmental portraiture for some of the nation’s largest media outlets. He’s photographed presidents, prime ministers and even royalty. If you’re lucky enough to book him for your big day expect some truly incredible results.
Weddings Bells: 30 Most Inspiring Wedding Photographers for 2014

Christmas came a bit early for members of the Professional Wedding Photographers of Canada (PWPC) as it has published its list of the top wedding photographers in Canada. The ranking is based on photographs that have won awards over the course of the year and participation in the organization. This year I am pleased to have placed 12th overall out of the 41 participating photographers from across Canada with images featuring Sidedoor Restaurant, Le Nordik Spa, Shore Club, Westin Ottawa, and St. Patrick’s Basilica. Here are my PWPC award winning images from 2013:
