Kayla and Jonah’s engagement session at their family cottage west of Ottawa was a lot of fun. I loved shooting both looks because it gives so much variety to the package and now they have some choices about the sides of themselves to show off. The first scenario was a little dressy without being over-done and all bets were off once we went fishing. The cottage, the beer, and the boats are all big parts of their lives and gave a lot of authenticity to their photos.

Astrid and Sheldon’s lake view resort wedding at Holiday Inn Peterborough and Elmhirst Resort on Rice Lake was a blast! I worked with Astrid in Niagara at the St. Catherines Standard newspaper and knew this was going to be a wild wedding. “Blair, I want to jump in the lake. I am going to jump in the lake in my wedding dress and freak people out. Then I’m going to burn it. With Fire.”

Congratulations Astrid and Sheldon!

I figured, if anyone would let me experiment on their newborn, Michelinne and Darren would. They are first-time parents to Ada and I am a first-time family photographer.

I’m testing out this idea where I hang out with your family for a few hours and just shoot you living together – playing, struggling, making a mess, watching TV, whatever – just normal family stuff. It doesn’t matter to me if you are laughing together or yelling at each other, playing video games, or running through the sprinkler. I don’t want to shoot a fake-perfect family day, I just want to document normal-ass families being normal-ass families. If you hired me to shoot your wedding, I think you know what I’m talking about.
