Here at Blair Gable Photography we just don’t take pictures of people in meadow’s at dusk, sometimes we stand in the middle of rivers. Katelyn and Ben are a great couple who’s wedding I will have the pleasure of photographing next year and we headed out into the county for their engagement shoot. The first attempt was ended when a massive thunderstorm rolled into town, the second time we nailed it – the light was perfect. The only problem was that we had to hop across slick river rocks to get to it! Despite wearing heeled boots, Katelyn took it all in stride.

Even though the majority of the weddings I shoot happen around Ottawa, Bonnie and Justin invited me to the Greater Toronto Area to photograph their wedding at the Parkwood Gardens in Oshawa and the Ajax Convention Centre. As soon as Bonnie told me that the Adam Sandler movie Billy Madison was shot at the Parkwood Gardens, the home of her great-great-grandfather (the founder of General Motors) I was sold. I walked around thinking about my favorite lines from that movie, “It’s nudie magazine day!” and “Stop looking at me swan!”, but I digress. They were a great couple, the ceremony was a beauty and the reception was a gong show! They had me stay the whole night, 13 hours – my second longest shoot of the year.

Just because I ripped on the idea of shoot an engagement session in a meadow at dusk (as seen here) doesn’t mean that I can’t just turn around and do that very thing the very next week. At least now I know why photographer constantly do it, because it is probably the most perfect time to do anything anywhere! Once again I was shooting Kaitlin and Keith and even though we left the cheese curds and gravy at home, there was still plenty of love to go around. I am very much looking forward to their wedding at Saunder’s Farm next year!

Just a heads up that I am going to start doing everything in a meadow at dusk from now on – except engagement sessions that is.

Anne-Sophie and Brad made their wedding the most unique and personal I have ever attended. They were married this weekend at the Strathmere lodge in North Gower near Ottawa. Their colour was purple, not the accent colour, but the colour. Her dress, his shirt, purple. Their guests were encouraged to wear crazy colours to the wedding – I limited myself to some blue polka dotted Happy Socks. Their “Ceremony of Love” was intensely personal and emotional and left everyone with tears in their eyes and joy in their hearts. Even mother nature’s best attempt to drown the wedding guests with an instantaneous and torrential downpour could not damped their spirits.

Check out this love and gravy filled engagement session with Kaitlin and Keith at the Elgin Street Diner. I will be shooting their wedding next summer at Saunder’s Farm. During one of our meetings, when I was asking them about their relationship, they mentioned that they ended many dates with a trip to the ESD for poutine. So why not, eh? Couples don’t have to make-out in a field at dusk for every engagement session do they?
