Say-what machine? I came home yesterday from Mystic Seminars to an email from the kind folks at Wedding Bells magazine congratulating me on being one of their top 30 photographers to watch for 2014. And I said pardon? This was a surprise to be sure and I am very grateful to be listed among such talented Canadian wedding photographers. This really inspires me to work even harder in 2014 to live up to this honour.

Why we love him: Few photographers can light a photo as artfully as Blair Gable.
This award-winning photographer actually spends most of his time shooting political news coverage, professional sports and environmental portraiture for some of the nation’s largest media outlets. He’s photographed presidents, prime ministers and even royalty. If you’re lucky enough to book him for your big day expect some truly incredible results.
Weddings Bells: 30 Most Inspiring Wedding Photographers for 2014

Christmas came a bit early for members of the Professional Wedding Photographers of Canada (PWPC) as it has published its list of the top wedding photographers in Canada. The ranking is based on photographs that have won awards over the course of the year and participation in the organization. This year I am pleased to have placed 12th overall out of the 41 participating photographers from across Canada with images featuring Sidedoor Restaurant, Le Nordik Spa, Shore Club, Westin Ottawa, and St. Patrick’s Basilica. Earlier this year Leilla and Phil were married in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and while I was unable to photograph that incredible event, I did photograph the reception they hosted for their friends and family at the Orange Gallery in Ottawa. Their guests were treated to a short film from their wedding celebration in Africa at the gallery, then their was some live music, a limbo competition, and a display of sparklers in the rain. It was a fantastic way to end this year’s wedding season for me. Enjoy!

Congratulations Leilla and Phil!

Dana and Phil’s wedding was one of the most intimate weddings I have ever photographed. It started by packing a dozen or so guests into the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral in the Byward Market, then trudging across town for a typical wedding meal at Beckta Dining and Wine restaurant (typical = amazing at Beckta)! I even got to sample a bottle of 2003 Dom Perignon champaign. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday if you ask me.

I had the honour of photographing my friends Kerry and Brent’s wedding earlier this month in Kitchener, Ontario. I worked with Kerry at the Ottawa Sun more than a few years ago and they pair held a unique and intimate wedding at Homer Watson House in Kitchener. All of the details were very personal to them, including the bride’s bouquet which was made of newspapers from the day they got engaged. Congratulations you two!
